About Us

Welcome to the Healthy and Active Preschoolers, Nutrition Learning Center for Child Care Professionals!

Healthy and Active Preschoolers is a place to learn more about nutrition. Every day preschool directors, teachers, and family day care providers make decisions about what foods to offer young children based upon their knowledge of nutrition. Consequently, child care staff play a significant role in shaping the food habits of young children.

Therefore, it is important that educators be knowledgeable about nutrition, physical activity, and child development in order to engage in effective developmentally appropriate nutrition practices that promote children’s desire for healthy foods, enhance development, and facilitate learning and play.

Child care environments must model healthy eating and help young children develop healthy and active lifelong habits. The Nutrition Learning Center is the place to help you do just that! We hope you view the Learning Center as a tool to assist you in providing a “nutrition-rich” environment that promotes healthy eating practices at your child care center or family day care home.

Healthy and Active Preschoolers is designed primarily for child care center administrators, directors, and teaching staff. Day care providers and child nutrition personnel (food service staff) may also find the information offered on the site beneficial.
