Child and Adult Care Food Program

The CACFP is a federal nutrition program that subsidizes nutritious meals served to infants and children, birth through 18 years old. The CACFP reimburses eligible child care agencies for meals and snacks that meet the CACFP Meal Pattern requirements.

Food for Thought

Curriculum for Preschoolers

Food for Thought is a nutrition education curriculum for preschoolers. The curriculum is structured around five units, namely, Fall Fruits and Vegetables, Winter Fruits and Vegetables, Go-Grains, Power up with Proteins, and Spring Snacking. There are 32 lessons in the curriculum and each lesson features a nutrition activity and integrates educational domains such as language arts, mathematics and science concepts.

The Nutrition Competencies for California’s Children is a manual for guiding school districts and child care agencies in promoting effective, sequential, and comprehensive nutrition education. The manual contains preschool nutrition competencies that highlight the importance of learning about food and nutrition early in life.
